JPEG Compression

JPEG graphic files are excellent for photos and can be used effectively in many games: such as jigsaws, scramblers and sliders. Because it's important to keep online file sizes small, you should optimize (compress) your JPEG files to the smallest possible size that gives you acceptable onscreen quality. JPEGs can be compressed in most graphics editors as you are saving the file. For example, in Paint Shop Pro, use SAVE AS, then click OPTIONS. For most games I use a 50% compression --- but I have learned that I must turn optimization off for JPEGs I am importing into Flash.

Here's a free online JPEG/GIF compression utility you can use if your graphic editor doesn't do optimization: http://www.freegraphics.com/art-gifjpeg-cruncher.html
